Our meeting-minutes for Oct 2, 2010; May 7, 2011; and Oct 8, 2011 will be posted in full here soon. ****************************************************************************** "Minutes" of our NPCA's May 1, 2010 previous meeting (as read and approved at our October 2, 2010 meeting): New Prospect Cemetery Association meeting (May 1, 2010) The New Prospect Cemetery Assn meeting was held on May 1, 2010 at Bank Star one, New Bloomfield. A quorum of members and officers were present. Meeting was led by Charlotte Hockemeyer, Vice President. She opened the meeting with a prayer. Secretary Teresa read Minutes of our October 2, 2009 meeting. Motion to accept as read from Jim Fleming was seconded by Nellie Jones and motion passed. Treasurer's report: New Treasurer Lynn Carrington went over the financial information. Teresa motioned to accept report as read and distributed, seconded by Jim. Motion passed. Also, Lynn reported that our cemetery's grass has now been mowed once this Spring, but is not yet weed-ridden. Charlotte reported current status on the planned display to be submitted to N.B. Historical Society for possible addition to their Museum in New Bloomfield. She is having trouble coming up with design-ideas. Was decided that she would set up an interim Meeting with several members to discuss this design. She will call people to let us know when and where to meet. Georgia moved that this report be accepted, seconded by Lynn, motion passed. There being no further "old business," meeting moved to "new business." Teresa had brought lists of addresses that now receive via postal-mails our newsletter/meetings reminders. She asked all present to look over the list for any deletions, corrections, or additions. Jim updated us on those who have passed since our last meeting: Irene Gray Thompson and Mertle Lea Copeland (sisters of Nellie Jones), Evelyn Von Rhodes, Russell Holt, Virginia Spencer David, and Donnie Trammell. Jim also reported that all three of our recent burials still need further landscaping and re-seeding touches...after dirt on these graves settles a bit more in two-three months. And he reported that the "Take One" pamphlets at cemetery's entrance need his replenishing occasionally, indicating that visitors are interested in our cemetery. Our NPCA website has seven pages up and running; and a photos-collage webpage still being developed. Website now includes a Homepage (about us), a constitution/bylaws page, cemetery burials, and links to other webpages of possible area-interest. Motion to adjourn, seconded and passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned to a carry-in dinner, after which some members drove down the street to visit N.B.'s Historical Society museum, mainly to see how other displays there are currently being exhibited. New Prospect Cemetery Association (October 3, 2009) The New Prospect Cemetery Assn meeting was held Oct 3, 2009 at Bank Star one, New Bloomfield. A quorum of members and officers were present. Minutes of May 2, 2009 meeting by Henryetta Cave were read by Teresa Brightwell. It was written that the dead tree has been removed by "Fisher" tree service. The name was corrected as "Feeler" tree service. The minutes were then approved as read and corrected. President Jim Fleming listed some illnesses of our members, also that Henryetta Cave's husband John T was improving. There has been a recent NP cemetery burial, Donald Doty. Also, the 2008 new grave for Dana Beck has been leveled, landscaped, and grass-seeded. There was concern raised regarding neighboring dogs. All appear sociable. They usually come over a few minutes to "check things out," and just to say "hello." Our website has not been set up as yet, but Jim reported that it will be online soon. Info on this has been put into New Bloomfield Area Civic Association's monthly newsletter, "Newsblaster." Jim also reported that the property just south of our cemetery is being cleaned up and is now looking good. Peggy Joyce Phillips presented the Treasurer's report. Peggy mentioned that after she writes the report it is typed by Clyda Wallace. Peggy is grateful for Clyda's help. Our current balance is $1,688.42. Our expenses were $960.00. Treasurer's report was accepted as given. We appreciate Peggy's longtime faithfulness. She is now working with Lynn Carrington, our new Treasurer. In Directors' reports, Luther Kelsay questioned if there is a requirement of a vault for burial in our cemetery. It was mentioned that in our 2004 meeting report we'd asked for a minimal requirement of either a vault or at least a concrete lid. There was much discussion that some cannnot afford either of these. It is thought that there are organizations to help cover these costs if a family cannot. Lynn volunteered to check with Debo Funeral home. Others will speak with a pastor in New Bloomfield, re pros/cons of requiring a vault. Teresa made a motion (seconded by Vernon) that we check on availability of organizations to help with expenses of vaults. If there are helps for this, we should require vaults at our next meeting when we have more information. The motion passed. Charlotte Hockemeyer reports she has tried to come up with some sort of display regarding our cemetery for submittal to New Bloomfield Area Historical Society, but has so far been unable to form firm ideas that best fit our exhibit there. There was then a discussion regarding ideas she might further investigate. She will continue pursuing our ideas for a display of our Cemetery at NBAHS. There was no further "old business." "New Business" brought discussion regarding grass (mowing now being our Assn's major recurring expense). Soysia Grass was brought up for discussion. Its cost would be $45 for 600 plugs to cover a 20-to-24 square foot area. Peggy mentioned they had soysia grass and like it, it being draught resistent. On a negative side, the grass will turn yellow with the first cold weather and is brown from late Sept to early April. The grass doesn't tolerate full shade and is somewhat invasive into flower beds. Some members expressed opinion that nothing is really wrong with the natural grass now on our cemetery. Vernon added that he tried it in his yard, and didn't like its being brown nearly six months of the year; also that if it died off, it didn't come back. Our Soysia Grass suggestion was then tabled for possible re-opening discussion as "old business" at our future New Prospect Cemetery Assn meetings. Officers approved/elected for 2010 were:
Motion made and seconded to adjourn, a "carry in" lunch then enjoyed by all. Some members after lunch then opted to drive out and revisit New Prospect Cemetery.
